A Decade On
Ten years ago when Heather & I decided to buy Rick's mobile dog grooming business, and yes that how we started, neither of us had a business background and as a couple had been together a mere six months.
What made buying the business so attractive was working with dogs, I'd spent many years working with horses in New Zealand, being our own boss, working together, having independence.
We had a list of what we wanted out of our next job and buying the dog business ticked all the boxes. We both had middle management experience and we up for a challenge. Heather had some money saved, and I had an absolute belief we were making the right decision.
There were plenty of people who didn't think we would be successful in running our own business, family, the bank, our first accountant, friends. We stopped talking about how excited we were, our plans, how we imagined the future, what we wanted to achieve. In fact, we stopped talking, hunkered down and got to work.
And we're still working, seven days a week, 365 days a year, walking dogs and caring for pets. It has been the best decision either of us has made in our life. We have grown as individuals, as a couple, as businesswomen and as leaders in the industry.
We've nurtured young people wanting to enter the pet industry, given unemployed youngsters a job, allowed school children to join us during 'Work Experience' week, provided the practical skills for pupils doing Animal Studies courses at TAFE.
We remain dedicated to our business and to providing the best service to our dog walking and pet sitting clients.
